This week we started a unit on emotion management.
We looked at this photo and talked about how we feel strong emotions, like embarrassment, physically in our bodies.
We get hot, our stomachs start to hurt, we may get a head ache. These are normal reactions to the feeling parts of our brains. It is the thinking part of our brain that can help us manage these and calm ourselves down.
We came up with some strategies on our own:
This has a lot more info of how you can practice with your child at home. The activity of making your fist into your brain is powerful one. In order to be able to access and use these tools effectively when we are experiencing strong emotions, we need to practice them regularly.
We are always working on building our skills of compassion and empathy.
