We had another very busy week in second grade!

FIRE SAFETY DAY AT CCS-remember to check your fire alarms batteries and make an exit plan with your family.  

After several revisions our letters to Mr. Marino about our favorite books were ready to be delivered.  He came to us!

 In math we measured "beans" and garden bed perimeters using unifix cubes.

           

During You Skills we have been learning about Affirmations

We watched two great videos about Mindfulness.  Here are the links:

We earned the Golden Paintbrush Award for our hard work in Art-way to go kids!

Writing About Reading

The students have been working hard writing letters about books they love!  I am looking forward to incorporating Kidsblog into this writing unit.

 

I just love this photo of the sun chokes in the school garden.  We helped weed this bed last spring.

On the left are CVC exceptions-these words are closed syllables but the vowel sounds are long.  

On the right are closed syllables with short vowel sounds.

Children sorted these words on their own.

READING WORKSHOP IN SECOND GRADE

Some groups like to listen to one another read out loud.

Other groups like to read silently in their heads and then talk about the chapter/book afterwards.

All readers are writing about what they read.

They might record an important thought, write about what happened in the chapter/book or summarize what they think the "big idea" or message of the chapter/ book is.

NEW CHAPTER BOOK READ ALOUD

We are trying to hold our own Book Club as we read this book.  Before each chapter begins, I post the question that we will discuss.  At the end of the chapter, we share our ideas and I record them on this Google Document-click on the link to read it:
