First graders continue to share their lives through small moment stories.
This week, we focused on revising. Revising is when you go back to your story and think about
more details to add. Details are in the words and the pictures.
We also started to think about ways to spell words.
One strategy we talked about is stretching out the word so we capture all the sounds we hear.

In first grade word study, we continued to review letter names and sounds.

We reread our work with a partner searching for where we need to add punctuation,
remove “ands” from run on sentences and correct errors.

We also learned and practiced these important spelling rules:
Starting words with a c or k:
If a word ends with the sound /k/:
- Use ck after a short vowel.
- Use k after a long or r-controlled.
- Use c after a short vowel in a 2 or more syllable word.
During reading this week we worked on creating bins of books at each readers' just right level, reading independently and reading with a partner.

We are also setting up our work board routines. Once we know how to do a station independently, we are able to work in different stations. This week we opened up listening center, snap word work, Seesaw and Lexia. We will add more stations next week!
