A Cold End to January!

Our nonfiction units are in full swing

We are now working on writing nonfiction chapter books.

We are adding different kinds of writing to some chapters-How To's and Lists.

We always make sure that we are trying our best to capture all the sounds we hear in words.  We can clap out the chunks we hear in words (syllables) to help us spell all the way across longer words.

Speaking of spelling...
We are practicing these glued (welded) sounds:

Our newer snap words are:
why, by, my, try, too, very, also, some, come, put, two, are, were, where, who, what, when, there, here, from, have, do, does, was, one, said, you, your, I, they

Reading nonfiction is very exciting.
The variety of nonfiction books available to young readers is amazing.

Here are some of the nonfiction books I have read to the class:

We play lots of math games to practice our adding and subtracting skills.

We are starting to use number lines.

We even use a large life-sized number line that I could not capture very well in a photo!

We reviewed doubles and doubles plus or minus one.

What can one little person do?

What can one little me or you do?

What can one little person do to help this world go round?

One can help another one

And together we can get the job done.

What can one little person do to help this world.

Brother Martin Luther King, he told the world, "I Have a Dream"

He led this country's fight for human rights

We must fight for liberty until all of us are free

And we'll know that we have justice on our side.

After reading snowman stories we did some fun follow up activities-art, writing and STEM.

We kicked off our new nonfiction units in both reading and writing

Adding details to pages we have already written is hard but we are persevering!

Music fun with Mr. Topping!
