Writers working hard!
This week we learned how to bring our stories to life!
We can make our characters talk and move (note the speech bubbles)
Tell what the characters are feeling or thinking
And tell our story in small steps, like this birthday story:

We now have writing partners and special writing spots around the room.
Writing and reading both start off with a mini lesson-where I teach them a new skill. We practice whole class and then they often practice with a partner before they go off to read.
We have been learning how to take a sneak peak, check our sneak peak and do something when we are done with a book. Readers can reread a favorite part, reread the whole book or tell their partner about the book.

We also have reading partners and special reading spots-still hard at work establishing routines!
This week in YOU Skills we practiced Fair Ways to Play. Students looked at photographs of other students at play and shared their noticings. Then they tried sharing, trading and taking turns with different materials at stations.
We have been referencing this poster before just about everything we do in the classroom!
Our funnest math lesson of the week was measuring things with Popsicle sticks and a partner!
We are really learning how to work together in our classroom.
Three of our four butterflies emerged from their chrysalises over the weekend and needed to be released at my house....
but one waited until Monday!!
We made butterflies to celebrate!
