February Fun!

Kindness activities continued throughout the month

We partnered up with the third grade team to color kindness book marks that we hid in the library to spread kindness.

We learned some basic facts about maps and the state of Vemont

The Omega team kicked off our school wide commitment to engage in age appropriate activities to celebrate Black History Month at our Whole School Morning Meeting.

The first grade team has been learning about role models whose stories inspire and move us.

We read the book Black is Beautiful by Ann McGovern.  The last page reads:

Sunlight and shade-look back;

The color of everyone’s shadow is black”

This inspired us to create silhouette art work.  All three classes explored with cool  and warm colors as a background.  Mrs. Filardi's class added bird silhouettes, Ms. Rowntree's class added hearts, and our class added tree silhouettes.

And last but not least we celebrated the 100th day of school!

Wishing you all a wonderful February break!

Hard working first graders!

Opinion Writing Unit

First we practiced sharing our opinions verbally every day as part of our morning meeting.

Then we chose our favorites from a collection of beach combing items and learned how to write each part of an opinion piece.

Next, they wrote opinions from these two books:

Last week we returned to writing our opinion about a favorite item from a collection.
This time it was a collection of dragons.

Math-we have been exploring with a hundred grid.

And engaging in fun geometry activities

We have been reading books and learning more about Martin Luther King Jr.
