We did some fun Mystery Science Lessons the past two weeks. First we learned about the spinning sky. Students observed that the Sun, Moon & stars seem to move in patterns in the sky. We observed the sun & shadows throughout the day and across the seasons. We also learned why stars are only visible at night.
Next, we learned about the biggest spider in the world.
The students worked together to build a spider out of paper that can climb up string.
We also learned about the structure and function of our skull. Then we made paper skulls.
In math we spend time practicing solving story problems. These problems have us comparing quantities. We read these as "The difference between 7 and 5 is 2".
We always talk about how there are more than one way to solve a problem.
Learning about even and odd numbers
Every ten days we work on a decade day page.
Now that the children are independent (for the most part) during our literacy stations during reading, I can pull small groups of children to read with.
The DEW construction crew took time our of their day to teach us about their tools.
Beth Damon joined us to teach us about internet safety.
Impromptu recess fun!
After reading Sky Color, we celebrated times we had a growth mindset.
