First Graders Working Hard!

We celebrated a January birthday this week with a birthday circle and special book.

In math we are using number lines to add and subtract jumps of ten.

WIN time-working hard on our reading!

This week we worked hard publishing a teaching book from our Nonfiction Writing Unit.
Once a book was chosen, writers had to make sure that it had
an introduction page, an ending page and at least two of these:

After doing this revision work, writers checked their spelling, punctuation and capitalization on their own to build independence correcting their work.

Then it was time to start creating title pages and covers!
Here's a sneak peak....

Welcome back!

We are wrapping up our Nonfiction Writing Unit.

After helping me make my story better, they partnered up and offered each other advice.

We added words to help our reader imagine what we are teaching about-these are examples of comparisons

Books need strong beginnings and endings.  We looked to books on our classroom shelf for ideas.
Then we added them to our own books.
