Math in action:
Writing in First Grade:
Our focus has been on community building as well as refreshing our letter names & sounds and handwriting skills. Please ask your child where to start their letters! We have also begun our first writing unit! First graders began writing small moment stories. We are learning ‘How to Write a Story’ and are using Night of the Veggie Monster by George McClements as our mentor text. We learned how to think of an idea, plan our writing by ‘touch and tell, sketch then write’ and then to write! As you talk with your child, share your day in small moment stories! First graders are also continuing to focus on lowercase letter formation during word study as well as reviewing letter names and their most common sounds. Please continue to support your child by holding them accountable for legible lowercase writing!
