First Graders Hard at Work

We have been super busy the past two weeks!
There are many classroom routines that we are still learning.
Like....
setting up our tables in the morning and taking them apart in the afternoon
Learning to use a book shelf in the classroom-organized by author.

Thanks to a grant from the PTO, we have a subscription to a weekly magazine called Scholastic News.

Theme work-Retelling a favorite book...

Writing Workshop is in full swing!  Every day there is a mini lesson where I teach the children something new.  We practice whole class and then off they go to write, trying out the new skill in their writing.  We are working on writing Small Moment Personal Narrative Stories.

An example of a mini lesson is how to ask yourself questions to revise your writing.  This is hard!  Here are some examples of what writers added:

Where did you walk? This writer added "on the road".

When did you go? This writer added "this summer".

Where ?
This writer added, "I played soccer at CCS".
