Music Class Creation:
Students started music class on Tuesday learning about how instruments they have played in class like the xylophone or boomwhackers are similar to this program. After a little experimentation each student was given the chance to enter three notes into the program to create a class piece. This is their creation:
Kindness
Right before break we worked on writing kindness messages to each other.

Week 1: What makes something living?
Week 2: Do all animal babies look like their parents?
Reading
A mix of online programs and partner or small group work
Word Study
Our new unit focuses on distinguishing between a closed and an open syllable. An open syllable occurs when a vowel is at the end of the syllable, resulting in the long vowel sound, e.g. pa/per, e/ven, o/pen, go & we. ... Whereas a closed syllable occurs when a syllable ends with a consonant, resulting in a short vowel sound, e.g., cat, sit, got & wet. The consonant closes these words.
Our new snap words are:
would, could, should, her, over, number, say, says, see, between, each
The following skills are being introduced for reading. Mastery of these in spelling is not expected at this time.
Math
We have been practicing solving story problems. As we solve them we have been sharing different addition and subtraction strategies. We will begin to learn about telling time to the hour and half hour next week.
