We will wrap up this unit next week. All their amazing poems will come home with them next Friday.
Our reading mini lessons for the past two weeks have centered on reading longer words and making sense of what we read.
We are learning about the vowel consonant e syllable.
This is often called the magic e or silent e syllable.
In math we are practicing adding 2 two digit numbers. We do not teach the traditional algorithm in first grade. Instead we use actual sticks in bundles of tens and ones as well as base ten blocks. We teach them to add the tens, add the ones and then put the tens and ones together. This builds strong number sense and place value skills. It also leads to stronger mental math.
We attended the whole school performance of the High School Musical Jr.
The kids did an AMAZING job!!
