First Grade Mathematicians
Dominoes are a great tool for building number sense. We played the traditional game of Dominoes as well as Domino Top It and Comparing Quantities.
Number racks are another tool we use.
Here mathematicians are giving their partner clues about a number they built so the partner can figure out what the number is.
We read Ten Apples Up On Top and worked with Make Ten Combinations.
We also graphed our favorite apples!
Practicing correct number and letter formation is a big part of the start of first grade.
We are learning the basic elements of a complete sentence.
We have discussed capital letters at the start, spacing between words, correct handwriting, spelling and punctuation.
Next was a lesson subjects and predicates.
First we sorted groups of words into either subject or predicate.
Then we put them together to make sentences and made necessary edits (the blue sticky notes).
We leaned about the Zones of Regulation. We opened our Peace Corner as a place to reset.
