International Dot Day and more!

During our Team Time this week we read a great book called The Ok Book.

Afterwards, kids turned to a shoulder partner to share what they thought the message of the book was.

Our classes collaborated on a dot sharing art project with Mrs. Huestis in the library to celebrate International Dot Day!

Some other read alouds from this week...ask your children what we learned from these books:

During our Word Study block we have been reviewing what we learned in first grade.  Here is a snapshot:

In Reading Workshop we are focusing on strategies that we can use when we come to a tricky word.  We often use more than one strategy at once.

We have a new routine in our classroom called "Sentence Editing"  I post a sentence with errors, the number at the end of the sentence tells how many errors there are.  Children copy them into their notebooks fixing all the errors that they find.  Then we go over it together and they use editing marks to correct anything they missed.

Example:

1.    me and kate went to the beach

2. them boys was in chicago last week

Fun with math manipulatives!

Mathematicians work together to correct each others' work.

Sometimes we work all together at the meeting area on our work!
