First Week of First Grade

Welcome to First Grade!

We are starting the year off learning about Monarch Butterflies.
We are recording our observations in a science journal.
The Monarch Butterfly lays its eggs only on milkweed.

When the caterpillars hatch, they eat only milkweed.

When it reaches a certain weight, it forms a chrysalis.
As of Friday three of our four caterpillars were in their chrysalises.

Butterflies should emerge in about 2 weeks!

In math we are practicing skip counting and exploring the different manipulatives in the classroom.

As we establish routines for Reading Workshop, we are reading Nursery Rhymes, poems, and Pete the Cat books.

During Writing Workshop we are learning to write personal narrative stories, like this great example:

Read Aloud-we become better readers and writers when we read and talk about books.

On Friday we had our first Whole School Meeting.
Some first grade friends helped Mrs. Nelson kick it off!

And of course, we spent some time on our awesome CCS Playground!

Enjoy the smiles:)
