Pumpkins and more!

Enjoying the beautiful autumn days:

What does WIN time look like?  Here is one WIN group working on their reading skills.  By having four different teachers we are able to break up into small groups for targeted instruction.

A new habit we focused on this week in Reading Workshop is trying a vowel sound two ways-flip the vowel sound from short to long.  Always asking...
 Does that look right?
Does that sound right?
Does that make sense?

We are learning about Digraphs in Word Study.  Digraphs are two letters that work together to make one sound.  They are:
ch, sh, th, wh, ck

In math we learned about doubles.  We also practiced adding and subtracting with the games Double It, Spin and Add and Spin and Subtract.
As a child states their equation and their answer, they always ask their partner, "Do you agree?"  If not, they work together to get an answer they both agree on.  THEN they take their turn.

We had our first Four Winds class on Erosion-thank you to our volunteers!

Mr. D. and Vicki came to talk with the first graders about school wide expectations and safety.

Mr. D. was also our guest teacher for YOU Skills this week!

We have earned our first Penny reward!
After much conversation, here are the goals we set and rewards we chose as a class:

I will plan the PJ, Stuffy and Movie for one day next week.  Stay tuned!

With Halloween right around the corner.....
