Happy Mother's Day

Arbor Day- a CCS Tradition

Before the assembly we heard a book about trees and made tree collages

We were joined by Charlie Prout of Horseford's Nursery.  Every year he donates a tree to the CCS playground.  All the amazing trees on our playground have been planted on Arbor Days over the years.  The Charlotte Tree Warden Mark Dillenbeck also came to share his knowledge of trees with us.  Several classes had things to share as well-such as poems, books, book reviews, and art.  The K-4 classes are working on a bulletin board outside of Mrs. Poirer's classroom based on the book The Wish Tree.  I'll include that in next week's post!

Learning how to retell books by focusing on five key events:

Our new Writing Unit: Realistic Fiction

Some of our Mentor Texts for Realistic Fiction

Practicing strategies for adding 2 two-digit numbers:
first add the tens, then add the ones, then add the tens and ones together-easy as can be!
This is what we teach children before introducing the algorithm.  It is actually easier  to start with the tens rather than the ones like the traditional algorithm has us do-try it yourself and see!

The VSO presented "Symphony Reel".

Four Winds-learning about clouds-thank you to our volunteers!

We had a surprise visit from a therapy dog as well!!

What a sweet dog!
