First Grade Math:
The students enjoyed choosing colors to create their own quilt designs. They made triangles by cutting squares in half. Once the quilt was complete we discussed the patterns we noticed and practiced counting the hand turkeys by 5s.

First Grade Writing:
Our work this week focused on writing our first and last names, practice with capital letters: I, names, and the beginning of a sentence, and when to use end punctuation. We also reviewed all lowercase letter formation. We worked hard to understand the concept of a sentence. We learned to ask ourselves two questions to determine if it is a sentence: Who or what did something? What did they do? First graders had a great time playing, “Is it a sentence?”
Second Grade Writing:
In second grade word study we are practicing spelling multi-syllabic words that are made up of two closed syllables, such as dentist and bathtub. We are now also working with the suffixes -ful, -ment, -ish, -ness, -less, -able and -en. Our new snap words are: water, knew, know.
We are beginning our nonfiction writing unit by reading nonfiction and discussing how nonfiction books are different than fiction books.
Theme:
When materials are mixed, they form a mixture. The mixture may have different properties from the materials that were used to make the mixture. After you mix materials, you may not be able to get them back.
