Before the break we were focusing on different strategies to make us more fluent readers.
We used whisper phones to hear ourselves read.
We also recorded ourselves reading some of our poems.

On Monday this week, the class let me know what they did over the break in writing.
They have grown so much!!
We did a mini science unit on the seasons that culminated with..poetry!
In math we are working on adding ten more and ten less off the decade. That means knowing without having to count on that 23 + 10 is 33. We play games and use bundles of popsicle sticks or base ten blocks to help them develop this important place value concept.
We kicked off a new reading unit on fairy tales. First we talked about fairy tales we already know and learned the elements of a fairy tale.
For fun, they were given pictures representing well known fairy tales and tried to guess what they were.
Each day I read them a fairy tale and then as a class we fill out a Fairy Tale elements chart. It is so cool how deeply they search for the numbers three and seven in the stories! Next the students work individually on a follow up. After, they work on Lexia.
