Our science unit has been going very well.
We began to explore how every animal has unique adaptations that help them survive.
We learned that animals use camouflage and mimicry. These adaptations help both predators and prey.
We also learned about biomimicry.
For fun we read this book and imagine ourselves with different eyes!
Letter reversals are common in first grade. These helpful tips can be used at home too!
This fun math game was sent home in their folders Friday. All you need is a game piece and 2 die.
We are beginning to learn strategies or adding 2 two digit numbers. We DO NOT teach the traditional algorithm in first grade. We teach it in a hands on manner where they are adding actual bundles of tens and ones.
Practicing a life long skill:
During Reading Workshop we now begin with a mini lesson where I teach a strategy. We practice the strategy together before they move on to their independent work time. During this time I pull small groups. While working independently they are either reading with a partner or by themselves, listening to a book on tape, working on Lexia Core 5 or listening to assigned content related books/videos in Epic.
