During our weekly time with Mrs. Brady, we have been learning about growth mindset.
This week we made body poses of some of the thoughts we might have in our head when we try something new or hard.
Keep on trying!
I can do it!
This is too hard!
I'm not very good at this!
I love challenges!
One important area we have been talking about is effort.
You may remember this "Effort" poster from a few weeks back.
Small groups of students worked together to create "Body Sculptures" of each different Effort Level. The rest of the class tried to guess what Level they were portraying. We found it was hard to tell apart levels 3 and 4-they looked very similar!
Level 4:
Level 1:
Level 3:

In math one of our core ideas is that the = sign means "the same as". Check out their work.
T means it is True, F means it is False.
We also compared numbers.
One day we pulled out random handfuls of unifix cubes, made trains and compared them.
Then they had to figure out how many more cubes they needed to make the trains the same length.
Another day we used subtraction to find the difference between our towers.
We kicked off our Opinion Writing Unit by choosing a favorite item from a collection of beachcomber items. We are using a lot of oral rehearsal to plan our opinions before we write them. Each child wrote why they chose their item. We used a checklist to look for important elements in our writing. I will be teaching them how to write an introduction and ending this week so those areas were not able to be checked off yet!
Next, the children chose their favorite dragon from a collection of dragons. They are using the checklist to help them plan their writing. This week we will work on writing catchy beginnings, explaining why with 2 or more reasons, using details to support our opinion, and write closings.
Beautiful clay sculptures in art class!
Family Traditions- we learned about Hanukkah and enjoyed some yummy sugar cookies!
