Whole School Morning Meeting started with the pledge
Then we listened to a reading of this powerful story
During our Library time, our guest reader Jeanne read us this book:
Jeanne did an awesome job with her activity-connecting the diversity of the characters in the book with larger themes of differences, similarities, and finding beauty in everything around us.
Discussion centered around vocabulary - skin, color, race, racism, diversity
Each student got two shells for the activity-discussed similarities, differences, then closed their eyes and imagined themselves as one of the shells and another person as the other-they pledged to be kind to at least one other person today, and the more the better.
Jeanne was so impressed about how much they knew already.

During Writing Workshop we spent time using our illustrations to teach with labels, captions, & diagrams:
We started our Geometry Unit on Math. We are learning to define shapes by their attributes.
Learning to define shapes by their attributes means that shapes may look very different than we are used to seeing them!
We learn many different strategies to help us add efficiently. One of them we call "Think Ten". Ask your child to explain it to you!
7 + 4 = 10 +1
Later in the day when we were adding two 2 digit number we discovered that this strategy still works!
60 + 48.... 60 + 40 = 100 so
60 + 48 =100 + 8
Adding on from a ten, decade, or hundred is so much easier!
In Computer Lab we explored a new resource of math related games. Your child can access them from home. Mr. Bianchi moved the link to CCS Online Programs. It is called "Bridges Programs"
