During Reading we are learning to record our thinking while we read nonfiction.
Reading is thinking!
We are recording three kinds of "thinks"-A question, a connection and something we learned.
When recording something we learned, we are working hard to make sure we do not copy directly from the book. We need to put it into our own words.
Here are some examples:
During Writing, we studied examples of Tables of Contents from our Nonfiction Library to help us learn how to write them ourselves. We are now writing Nonfiction Chapter books!
Here are some examples:

We ended the week with a visit from Vermont children' book author and illustrator Jason Chin.
He specializes in nonfiction!
He drew a picture of one our CCS Kindergartners and the kids told him what to draw around her.
They decided to put her underwater.
We are reading a book during read aloud time called Toys Go Out by Emily Jenkins.
This is always a class favorite! It tells the adventures of some stuffed animals and what they do when no one is home or the family is sleeping. Their adventures are really all about friendship, forgiveness and love.
There are two more books in this series which I will read to the class.

Forgot these Free Choice Friday Candids kids had asked me to post!
