Sound Travels

Our first and second graders made thank you cards for A2VT.
Here are a few:

This week we experimented with pitch.  Pitch describes how high or low a sound is.  Short tubes on a xylophone create high pitched sounds, while longer tubes create lower pitched sounds.  The same is true for stringed instruments-shorter strings create higher pitches, longer strings create lower pitches.
This week we also watched some science videos about sound.
Then we explored the spoon gong system.
We predicted what would happen when we made the spoon vibrate.

then we got to it!

We observed that when the spoon vibrated, the vibration traveled though the string, then through the cup and then to our ears.

Our Growth Mindset book and activity this week:

During many of our conferences I mentioned the work of Carol Dweck and her research on Growth Mindset.
Here is a short TED she gave I think you will find interesting:

Have nice weekend and happy spring!
