Our UVM students Miss Molly and Miss Elizabeth are a great addition to our classroom.
They are jumping right in with Mystery Box, reading books and leading follow up activities.
We gathered with third grade to decorate kindness book marks that we then hid in books in the library.

Do you know the difference between a closed and open syllable? Your children do!
We wrapped up our Opinion Writing unit. Students used a check list to write their last two opinion pieces independently. They love sharing their work with one another. Look in your child's folder for their work.
We began our transition to a reading workshop model. I teach skills in a mini lesson and then they read alone or with a partner/partners. After break we will add a technology component and I will return to pulling reading groups as they are more independent with the new routines.

Readers Help Each Other Without Telling!
First, we give the reader THINK time - at least 5 seconds.
Then we can offer hints like….
-What sounds does the word start with?
-Do you see some chunks you know?
-Point out chunks you see for them.
We only tell the word if the reader is really stuck!
