Science In Second Grade

Experimenting with Balls and Ramps

First partners had to gather materials and then design an inclined plane (ramp).

Then on their own they had to make a hypothesis.  We will release balls of different mass down the inclined plane.  What do you think will happen to the the distance travelled by balls of different mass?

Time to test and gather data!  We measured the distance traveled in unifix cubes.

Analyze your results.
Was your hypothesis correct?  What did you learn?  If you could design a new test what would it be and what data would you collect?

Creating Teaching Posters about our Research Question about Frogs
Children had to plan out a teaching poster that included at least three non fiction text features as well as their research essay.  First they planned out their poster then got to work.

Finished projects will be hung in the hallway after they have been read to the class this week.

Surprise recess!  Fun in the sun!

Our Symbols of America paintings look great, don't you think?

Our next two chapter book read alouds.
We will work on a retelling activity after each.  Then we will compare and contrast the two stories using a Venn Diagram.
