Our Second Grade Fairy Tale Unit continues...
This week we read three different versions of Little Red Riding Hood and did some fun activities.
The classic story-dark and a little scarier than kids expected!
We followed up making our own paper baskets.
We followed up this modern version with some yoga on GoNoodle.
This Chinese version had them riveted!
We followed up with a comparison worksheet,
and trying to write Chinese numbers!
With Cinderella we also traveled to Egypt this week.
We discussed elements of the fairy tale in small groups
We watched a National Geographic video on Ancient Egypt and took notes.
We read a non-fiction article on Ancient Egypt together and took more notes.
Then we created Egyptian flags with facts on the back.
Planting Unit updates:
The lima bean seeds that did not die over the vacation sprouted into healthy little sprouts-but there were only 6 that survived! We transplanted them into soil and have placed them in a small grow lab. We also filled the extra cells with replacements.
Root Science: the insides were moist because the roots bring water up to the rest of the plant.
We ended the week with a CCS Tradition-Arbor Day. Due the rain, our assembly was inside.
The fourth graders helped plant this year's tree-an oak being planted in memory of Charlotte Tree Warden Larry Hamilton.
Stay dry this weekend!
