Fun and Busy Week!

Reading Workshop
Learning how to synthesize the big ideas of non fiction and put our learning into our own words.

Many readers were inspired to take their own notes during independent reading time!

First Grade Writer's Workshop & Word Study: This week, first graders worked hard on the three parts of informational writing: introductions (hook your reader & name your topic), teach facts, and conclusions (connect back to your introduction - This is where you say 'goodbye' to your reader!) We are also working hard on using our best letter formation, with no reversals, and writing in complete sentences that include: capital at the beginning, complete idea, spaces between words and end punctuation. In word study, we are continuing our work with consonant blends. This week, we learned about digraph blends, such as 'nch.' We tap one finger for each sound we hear. (/n/ /ch/) We are working on the snap words: her, over, number.

Second Grade Writing and Word Study:

Writers worked hard to publish one or two stories from our Nonfiction Writing Unit. Next week we will share them with the first grade writing classes. We will take an extra week to practice our ar and or spelling skills.
