Ready for Break!

First Grade Math:
The 1st graders had a fun 100th Day of School. We spent our math class focusing on the number 100. We have also been playing Memory and I Have, Who Has to practice our 2 and 3D shapes. We are learning about fractions including halves, quarters, and thirds.
Spin to Win Bingo - with double-digit #s
Creating our own Lift the Flap cards with matching number trees, fact families, and story problems

Second Grade with Ms. H-click here for her blog

First Grade Word Study & Writer's Workshop: We wrapped up our narrative/information unit! In word study, we began working with five sound words. We learned how to tap a word with five sounds. Ask your child to show you how! Try these words: clomp, brunch, shrimp. We also learned the snap words: any, many.

Second Grade Writing and Word Study:
We finished our opinion pieces about whether a dog or cat is the best pet.
We have started to prepare to write an opinion piece about what season is best.
Our next word study unit will be on the vowel teams ai and ay.
The general rule is that ai is found in the beginning or middle of a syllable,
ay is generally at the end.  A word never ends with ai.
Our new snap words are: great, country, away, America, school, thought
